TitleWhat should I do about the Driver's Airbag Inflator Recall?
You may have received a recall notice for your driver’s front airbag inflator. This recall is urgent and the repair should be done immediately. You can contact your local Acura dealership to schedule an appointment for the repair. Acura recommends that you do this as soon as possible.

The airbag inflator contains a propellant that rapidly generates the gas that inflates the airbag cushion in a crash. In certain vehicles, the driver’s airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. If an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator casing to rupture. Metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, possibly causing injury or fatality to vehicle occupants.

There are particularly high-risk driver’s airbag inflators, called “Alpha” inflators, that have a very high rupture rate. Alpha inflators include certain 2001 to 2003 model vehicles. If you own one of these vehicles, Acura recommends that you immediately take it to the dealer for repair and don’t otherwise drive it.

Approximately 11.9 million Honda and Acura vehicles are affected by the driver’s and passenger’s airbag inflator recalls. Acura is taking every effort to keep clients informed about this recall, including mailers, phone calls, e-mails, text messages, advertising, and door-to-door canvassing.
